When do have which cupcakes when? There are about twenty different varieties of cupcakes on the menu daily. Some bakeries only have four. We make almost all of our Daily Cupcakes everyday, Specialty Cupcakes are featured at least once a week. This keeps our menu fresh and interesting. For specific cupcakes, please order ahead.
Help! I need a cake for a birthday! Is it too late to place an order? We will go out of our way to make sure we make your cake fresh for your event. Because we do not have a freezer full of cakes, we require a full day between order and pick up for all cakes (order tuesday for thursday). Saturday cake orders must be placed no later than 5P on Thursday. Cupcakes may be ordered the day before, but we cannot guarantee all flavors. It is always best to order as soon as possible.
Why do you require a full day between order and pick up for your cakes? Everything is baked fresh to order, not pulled from a freezer of pre-iced cakes.
What are your hours? We are open Tuesday thru Friday 10A-5:30P. Saturdays we are open from 9A-4P. We do indeed offer service for events on Sunday, but the retail store is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Do you host birthday parties, childrens decorating classes, or offer tours? At his point in time, we are unable to offer those types of services. We do indeed offer lessons. Perhaps down the road we will add them.
Why are you not open on Sunday? Can you come in and bake my dozen cupcakes? There is simply no parking available on Sundays for our customers, as it is monopolized by other interests for the entire day. Sunday services are available for production and delivery, such as wedding cakes and cupcake towers. We do have a minimum order of $250 for Sundays, and surcharges apply based on delivery time. You are welcome to pick up an order, including small cupcake towers, for Sunday on Saturday Afternoons.
Can you draw a chicken on my cake? No, we do not draw on cakes. Most accents are fondant sculpted three dimensional figures. Please see fondant accented cakes.
Do you sell just the cupcake tower, and if so can you ship it to Texas? The cupcake towers are part of a specialty service. We do not sell them individually nor do we ship them. Towers and stands are available on the internet for purchase.
Can I order one of each flavor or something off the menu? Because we are a small bakery, we may not be able to offer every type of cake every day. Daily cupcakes can be ordered in single increments. Specialty cupcakes can be ordered in increments of four. We no longer are making off the menu items such as vegan or sugar free cakes. Your local restaurant does not sell their raw beef, so please do not ask for uniced cupcakes so you can skip the cooking.
Two twenty five for a cupcake? Well...yes. Take a look at anything comparable and you can see that our products are extremely reasonable for what they are. Butter, sugar, pure vanilla- the list continues. Sorry, that's right, a supermarket is a lot cheaper. Apparently they do not charge for the preservatives and inferior ingredients. The standard for cupcakes in this area is more than $2.50 each. Using the same ingredients, cupcake bakeries in LA and New York are upwards of $3 each.
How long do they stay good? Cupcakes are best enjoyed the same day. If you want to store them for a longer period of time, wrap your box or carrier in plastic and store them in the refrigerator. We recommend purchasing the same day you will be eating them. We do not freeze cupcakes, so you shouldn't either.
I have allergies to peanuts and food dyes. Is it safe to indulge? We use peanut butter and food dyes with our equipment and mixers, so we advise those with allergies to error on the side of caution.
Do you ship or deliver? We do offer delivery for all of our larger services. It ranges from $30-$200 and we will go as far as the shore, Hershey, Wilmington, and Allentown. Deliveries are site specific, meaning we do not have a truck that drives around all day.
Where are the donuts, sheetcakes, and butter cookies? We are not a traditional bakery with tons of products that are low quality with high turnover. We make everything fresh daily, without exception with the best ingredients possible. Donuts are not our business, butter cookies are usually filler for bakeries, and aren't round cakes just a littler nicer?
I am interested in something a little different for my event. What do I do? Most special event items such as cupcake towers and wedding cakes can be discussed with our special event coordinator to create an awesome custom service. Simply give us a call or email the bakery to schedule an afternoon or Saturday consultation appointment. They allow our customers to incorporate the best of what we have to offer. No binder here, we use hundreds of digital images and the internet to customize your event. Oh, did we mention you get some cupcakes to take home?
If I order a nine and twelve inch two tiered cake, why isn't the same price as two regular cakes put together? Sorry, it does not quite work like that. Our products require a significant amount of time to produce, and that is evident in the level of detail. Cakes require a tremendous amount of forethought, specialty ingredients which are custom ordered specifically for your event, and sometimes even building structural components. We base the price of specialty items on a host of factors. They include the labor and time spent in production, availability and shipping of items, ingredients, as well as time and labor spent in delivery and set up. I guess you could get a nine and twelve inch cake and stack it yourself, though.
Can you donate to our cause? Velvet Sky Bakery operates an independent foundation focusing on multiple charities in the region. All donations will be made to this very worthwhile cause.
I was not satisfied with my purchase, who do I talk to? The bakery rarely receives negative feedback, but sometimes we do indeed make a mistake. Because of the nature of our custom ordered products (we can't put your cupcakes back on the shelf), we no longer give monetary refunds. We can offer credit for the products or replace them with what's available. A legitimate explanation is required, 'it was not what I pictured' is not a legitimate explanation.
