Velvet Sky, located in the quaint neighborhood of Jenkintown, is a modern style of bakery that is making its way across the country. Throw out everything antiquated about what you think passes for baked goods, and discover why Velvet Sky is the freshest bakery in the area. Loads of shortening and big cans of pie filling be gone! Here we use butter (literally, tons of it), sugar, eggs, fresh fruit, and all of the finest baking ingredients on the market. Our chocolates are from Belgium and the Netherlands, not the middle of Pennsylvania. Oh, and as for variety, how is more than forty types of cupcakes? Need a cake for your next event, we do that too, even in peanut butter.

Welcome Back
Okay, you were right. We would like to welcome back our old friend the plastic cupcake carrier six pack. Yes, they are not the most elegant of packaging, but your cupcakes will stay nice and comfotable on the ride home. We offer the carriers for increments of six cupcakes, so there is your excuse to take a roadie and a few extra home for the family. We won't tell, promise.
Recent Cakes
City Skyline
A night wedding at the Franklin Institute. The cupcake tower incorporated red vlevet, ultimate chocolate, and ivory vanilla buttercream. The tower itself was our large tower painted ivory with a band of black and silver ribbon. The cake is covered in black fondant with small silver stars. the cityscape is the skyline of Philadelphia, in sequence from right to left, all handmade and edible.
Surprise!
Three cupcake towers with 144 cupcakes, one dozen of each variety, for a surprise birthday party. The customer chose to incorporate multiple towers, which were painted a metallic bronze. The topper cake and cupcakes all incorporated a brown, cream, and red motif. The logo is hand painted with initials, and the pattern is hand cut random diamonds with a starburst pattern supporting the logo.
10th Anniversary: University of Pennsylvania Housing
A large service to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the University of Pennsylvania's unique college houses. Each house was assigned a different and very detailed crest, which is replicated on the front of the cake. All of the crests were made individually, by hand. The background of the cake is a brick pattern, stone, and windows which is reflective of several of the houses. The cake, which was accompanied by two cupcake towers with one thousand cupcakes, was cut by the president of the university during a ceremony (in case you we wondering, it takes 19 minutes for one thousand cupcakes to be eaten by college students).
Yonnie's 70th Birthday
A golf themed cake for forty people. The cakes are pound cake with chocolate and vanilla buttercream. They are covered in grass green fondant. The cake includes bushes, trees, golf balls, tees, and a flag; all are hand sculpted and edible.
Tailgate 30th Birthday
A shaped cake in the likeness of a Weber Grill. The cake was chocolate cake with peanut butter and chocolate buttercream, covered in premium black vanilla fondant. The entire cake is edible and made to be easily disassembled for serving. The accents include wood grain handles, a metallic silver grate, hamburgers and hot dogs, asparagus wrapped in foil, a shrimp skewer, as well as a gold flake fire happy birthday.
Halloween Birthday
A two tiered cake in the classic halloween colors of orange, black, and purple. The cake incorporated fondant dots, pumpkins, candy corn, ghosts, and spiders.
Capone Wedding
A three tiered wedding cake in addition to a large cupcake tower. Each tier was a different flavor, including carrot, pound, and red velvet cakes. The cake is simple and elegant with the use of handmade cascading ivy and tiger lilies, which echoed the green of the ivy.
Sunflower Display Cake
A three tiered fondant cake that incorporated a more modern geometric and sunflower theme. The colors are three shades of the the same color, a current trend in cakes. Each sunflower is handmade and brushed with copper highlights in the center and accented with gumpaste leaves. The cake was produced for a fall wedding issue of a local magazine.
